With an new design, features and powertrains, the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift will be more upmarket than the current model.
January 12, 2017 – First launched in 2005, Swift’s success is attributed to sporty looks, frugal engine choices and affordable pricing. Giving a stiff competition to rivals in the segment, the hatchback offers value for money. Maruti has been consistently upgrading the model and is prepping yet again to transit it into the next generation. The 2017 Maruti Swift will witness extensive change over the model it precedes, inclusive of aesthetic changes, mechanical updates and new on-board equipment. Talking of the aesthetic changes, it will receive radical changes, transforming the entire look. While the basic silhouette has been carried forward, the overall design has evolved with edgy elements adding to the visual appearance.
From what we know so far, the new generation Swift will be largely similar to the global model revealed lately in Japan, but it may vary in terms of equipment. Following suit, interior will be a step-up compared to the current model donning a sporty look and new tech including a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay etc on the range topping variants. It is to be noted that the interior layout on the India-spec model is likely to be different from the global model. Sharing underpinnings with Baleno, the 2017 Maruti Swift will be lighter aiding improved performance and higher fuel economy. Check Out – 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Photo Gallery

However, Maruti is expected to tune the engines for increased power output. Additionally, there could be an indigenously built diesel unit and possibility of an SHVS and Boosterjet variant cannot be ruled out completely. Read More About – Maruti Dzire 2017 & Maruti Ciaz 2017

The new Maruti Swift 2017 will continue to source power from the same 1.2 litre, K-Series petrol and 1.3 litre DDiS oil burner used in the current model. Although, these engines could be tuned to develop higher power output and increased fuel economy. This will in turn also improve the performance. Currently, the 1.2 litre K-Series petrol engine puts out 83bhp of power and the torque stands at 115Nm. Diesel powered Swift is slightly low on power compared to the petrol engine, making 74bhp and 190Nm of torque.
As for the transmission options, Maruti could add a CVT to the carline along with the five-speed manual unit. In addition to the aforementioned engines, Maruti is apparently developing a diesel powertrain, displacing 1200cc. There is yet no official word on the same; hence it would be a bit premature to confirm it. Talking of the Japanese model, it will get a 1.2 litre K12C petrol, 1.0 litre Boosterjet and a 1.2 litre Dualjet Diesel engine with SHVS system. Rumour is also doing the rounds that Maruti India could also introduce the Boosterjet and SHVS variants; however it is yet to be confirmed by the carmaker.
