Tata Nexon (Osprey) Preview
With the demand for the subcompact SUVs
mounting up, every carmaker seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. Having
said that, there are some auto makers that are still prepping to foray
into this space and one of them is Tata Motors. Tata Motors will
spearhead into the sub-4 meter SUV segment with its new Tata Nexon
slated to launch in India in February 2017. The SUV was displayed in
near production version at the 13th Auto Expo and is said to have taken
design cues from Range Rover Evoque, one of the most selling models from
Land Rover in India. Mechanicals powering the SUV will include 1.2
litre petrol and 1.3 litre multijet engine.
Tata Nexon Exterior
Measuring under 4 meters (3995mm to be precise),
Tata Nexon will have a ground clearance of 200mm. Front profile will be
styled aggressively sporting chrome finished radiator grille meeting
with the pulled back head-lamp units. Side profile is marked by the
pronounced wheel arches and sharp beltline. Cladding around the arches
accentuates the muscular stance. Rear side is styled tastefully,
sporting U-shaped LED tail-lamps, LED lights for the number plate
housing and plastic cladded rear bumper.
Tata Nexon Interior
The five-seater SUV offers comfortable space inside
for passengers and the material quality has significantly improved as
compared to previous Tata cars. Also expect a bunch of tech inside and a
well-spaced cabin.
Tata Nexon Engine specification & Transmission
Tata Nexon will be launched in petrol and diesel
guise, deriving power from the 1.2 litre, three cylinder turbocharged
petrol engine that does duty on the Zest and the 1.3 litre, multijet oil
burner putting out 90bhp at 4000rpm and 200Nm of torque between 1750 to
3000rpm. The petrol unit also makes 90bhp, this is the same unit that
is used in the Zest and Bolt. As for transmission, both the engines will
be paired to the five-speed manual gearbox with an option for an
F-Tronic AMT unit.
Tata Nexon Competition
In the compact SUV space, Tata’s Nexon will take on
the likes of well-established models in the sub-four meter segment
inlcuding Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra NuvoSport and
Mahindra TUV300.
Tata Nexon Expected Price
Considering that it will rival popular models like
Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza in the subcompact SUV space, the
Tata Nexon price should be restricted within the affordable range. That
said, the new Tata Nexon price in India is likely to be in the range of
Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Tata Nexon Expected Launch
Tata Nexon subcompact SUV made an appearance at the
13th Auto Expo early in 2016 and since then it has been seen testing
across the country divulging more details about the exterior and
interior. As the word go, the new Tata Nexon India launch is slated for
February 2017.
